I visited Pattaya for five weeks in February and March. I have been to Pattaya many times and here are my thoughts about current situation there. Unfortunately, my experience was mostly negative.
If I noticed that in the last six or seven years demand (number of single starved males looking for anything) has drastically increased, now I can only add to that, that besides the zombie army, arrived the rest of the herd (I mean families etc.). Simply speaking, walking in Pattaya is quickly resembling any big Indian city. You don’t have to walk anymore, a mass of people will carry you forward. Crossing the street is difficult as there is always someone behind you and in front of you, a quite annoying experience. Keep in mind that there were not too many Indians around (because of the high season), beside Walking Street and the beach area where they hang around.
Prices
Prices went up. Once upon time short time was one hour (girls stayed one hour and it was up to you to do what you want) and the price was 1,000 baht. Then it went up to 1,500 baht, and one hour became one time (you come once). Now, it depends. The better looking ones will ask for 2,000, and in most cases as soon as you come, she leaves. Of course, some ask for 3,000 baht etc. It all depends on your looks, age etc. Don’t expect to get it for free, but you might find some deals. Again, it depends how much time you have to find a deal. Prices for long time can vary, but I would expect to pay from 3,000 baht up. Of course, you can find something cheaper, but don’t expect a really good looking woman. Prices on the 6th street are 2,000 baht (used to be 1,000 baht not so long ago) plus 400 – 500 baht for the room. There are also some gents club where you can drink with girl, but the whole experience will cost probably around 3,000 baht. I wonder if it is really worth it to come from another continent and pay that much. Prices will soon be similar to home.
Crowds
I am always amazed when I see some tourist guys in their 20s in the clubs. Don’t you have girls in your home countries to party with? Well, they are here to stay, which means that Thai girls will lose face if they decide to go out with older guys, because they can go out now with younger guys. Of course there is always an exception, but don’t be surprised if that happens to you.
Quality of the service
You come, she goes. That is what you get for 1,500 – 2,000 baht. The duration is probably 15 – 20 minutes, depending on how long she takes in the shower, or if she has a drink. Her time in bed will probably be around ten minutes, maybe less.
Availability
There are a lot of available women. I have noticed that there are plenty of young and good looking women on the 6th street. I saw there better looking girls there than in Pattaya’s nightclubs and bars.
I mentioned that there are plenty of women around but top quality is hard to find. I mean not just in looks, but in terms of the service they offer. For instance, one woman woke me up one morning to ask if I wanted to be put on the list for that evening. Can you imagine that? You come from another continent for a nice experience and special treatment, and she wants to put you on her list of customers for that night. That’s what the nightlife industry in Pattaya has become… You are number three, or number four, or number five she does that day. Is this reason to come back?
If you end up in your room alone at night, and decide to check one of the apps to find someone, forget about it. You’re better off going to sleep, it is not going to happen. One girl showed me 1,200 messages in her app account. Another had the maximum 999 messages in her LINE account. It is just crazy, I remember when once upon the time, I was getting messages on LINE all the time. Now, I get zero messages. When you see how busy the girls are, it’s no surprise.
Basic market economics are driving prices up. Guys who already had a bad experience will have to offer more money to get something that resembles being treated like a human being. It is not uncommon for guys to take the girl off the market, buy her out and go to some place where there are not so many guys around.
Gogo Bars
With 1,500 – 2,500 just for the barfine, 260 baht for lady drinks (and many girls disappearing after a couple of minutes), it is not exactly fun. When I visited, some of the most famous gogo bars had plenty of seats free and many customers just sat there and drank alone. Most of the girls just stand around, hardly dancing, completely disconnected from the place. Short time is usually 3,000 baht, although some girls may ask for 4,000 baht (they are famous…). Short time means you come, she goes. So, 2,500 baht bar fine, 500 – 1,000 baht lady drinks, short time 3 – 4,000 baht. Hmm…that means a total of 7,000 – 8,000 baht for one shot?
Conclusion
For many years Thailand was like a remedy for a lonely man. I don’t find it to be the case anymore. Times when you could easily find a holiday girlfriend and spend the entire time with them is long gone. The whole experience nowadays is no different from prostitution in any other country.

For many years I’ve been saying that things are not what they used to be but wow, what a damning report this is! The golden age is well and truly behind us. I think these days the gogo bars are places to visit for old times sake. Drinks are still cheap when you consider the entertainment on offer and gogo bars can make a fun backdrop when you’re out with mates for a night out. Enjoy a few drinks, music, entertainment and the unique ambience. But taking girls out of the bars these days? It does seem like it’s become something of a mug’s game.
“You come, she goes” is a great line and one I’ve never heard before!
