Baht Man’s Dreams Of Retirement In Thailand Smashed On The Rocks Of Reality

I’m sure that there are a lot of us white guys who wish we could once again experience The Land of Smiles like back when we used to dominate the tourist and expat community circa 1999. I had the time of my life back then! Personally, I’ve been waiting for almost an entire decade to once again “party like it’s 1999-2009”, and I can hardly believe how fast time has gone by and that 2020 is just around the corner. Wow! How time goes by so fast! And right now I’m kinda sad. Personally, to me it’s looking less and less likely that “the good times are going to roll” ever again for us older white guys. Frankly, I think we had our day in Thailand, and nothing like it is ever coming back – at least not in time for most of us old white guys.

Bloomberg’s story about “Surging Baht Shatters Expat Dreams Of Easy Retirement” has only confirmed my belief that I probably need to change my plans to live in the LOS.

Worse, yet, I really think that we white guys will be lucky if we don’t live to see our entire culture collapse within our own western countries. It looks like to me that Western Civilization and the race who built it are both entering a massive demographic and economic decline; which means that Thailand is probably going to become a less and less favorable place for old white men to visit and / or retire. Why? Simply because “no money, no honey”. What do I mean? Simple: as Western Civilization declines and Asian Civilization rises so will the currency exchange rate reflect the current reality. And the current reality is that not just old white guys, but the entire white race is in serious decline in more ways than one. Maybe not everywhere in the world, but here in America white people have gone from a super majority to barely a majority. And states like California (which used to be The Land of Golden Opportunity) are completely unrecognizable. America is now the third most populated country in the world. And, frankly, it looks and feels like more and more like a third-world country. And the American economy is going to reflect that economic fact right along with the currency exchange rate. So get used to it.

Whether you or I want to admit it or not, Western nations, white nationalist groups and their culture are all being flooded with hundreds of millions of immigrants from different nations with different religions, culture, political ideology and values. As Bob Dylan once sang, “the times they are a-change-in…” The big question is will this level of massive change and imported “diversity” make Western Civilization a better place with a better quality of life, better economic conditions and one better-big happy-diverse family? Well, I think you know the answer. And if you don’t, then just study history. Did the massive immigration of the Sea People cause a Bronze Age Collapse? Did the massive immigration of outsiders into the Roman Empire contribute to its collapse? Did white men’s massive immigration from Europe to America cause the collapse of the Native American people? Yeah, and there are hundreds more examples. And do you know what else? History is repeating. What you and I are witnessing is the decline and fall of Western Civilization; which also means an unhappy ending for many of our personal retirement stories. Over and over I’ve attempted to explain to expats that what happens in your home country (and Western Civilization in general) is going to greatly affect your retirement plans in Thailand – or wherever. Just follow the money…….

Here’s the deal: if Western men can’t maintain economic, military and culture dominance, then we lose all of the associated benefits of, for example, my country’s super-power status and the dollar as the reserve currency of the world. So, what happens to Western Civilization is very important to the expat community – even if some of the ignorant dumbasses don’t know it.

So the bottom line, is our future in Thailand actually contingent on how our respective countries compete and fare in a globalized world of trade and diversity? So, how do you like “diversity” now? How do you like massive immigration flooding into your country now? How do you like all of that cheap Chinese shit in your neighborhood store now? How do you like the offshoring of high paying jobs and the onshoring of low-paid immigrants? How do you like the Marxists telling you that you must turn in your guns, now? Of course, immigration is not all bad, but a flood of immigration is very bad, indeed.

Methinks that the future of expat life in Thailand is not looking so good, because the financial powerhouse that used to underpin Western Civilization isn’t looking so good – and, frankly, retirement in many Western Countries isn’t looking so good for the very same reasons. Here in America, for example, the cost of living is rising, but income for the average Joe is not. I see a substantial difference in just the last 10 years. Personally, I’m having all I can do to save enough to live modestly after my retirement. My grandfather retired at 65 and lived to be 91. I wonder what’s going to happen to me when I have to live 30 years without an income like he did? In this fast changing world I doubt that I’d even risk retirement in Thailand at this point. It just seems way, way too risky. What happens to Bahtman if the baht actually drops down 10 baht to 1 dollar? – or 1 to 1 – or 1 to 10? Sounds crazy? No it doesn’t. Just look at China and how that country has developed into an industrial powerhouse in less than two decades. China has taught me that anything can happen. I remember when I could live for nothing in China, and I was very tempted to do so. I was offered one good paying teaching job after the other with all my expenses paid including an apartment right on campus… My, my how times have changed…

Thirty years being retired is a long time. All I’m saying is that anybody who is planning on retirement in Thailand better have a backup plan and the money to fund it…. And I now think the LOS Golden Age is over, which means I’ve changed my mind.

Please, anybody out there, tell me I’m wrong and I have nothing to worry about. Tell me I’m just paranoid. Tell me that my beloved country, America, which is now the third most populated nation on Earth, can handle tens of millions more low-skilled and uneducated immigrants flooding into our already jammed up cities and radically changing our politics, religion and culture and crushing our public service system(s).. Yes, tell me that my SSI and government healthcare and everything that I’ve paid into all of my life is secure for the next 30 years without all of the foreigners looting every last penny until the entire U.S. system goes completely bankrupt. And tell me it doesn’t matter, anyway, because Thailand will love me long time even if I’m broke and I can’t return to my country because it’s bankrupt…

Finally, I’d just like to say that I currently live in Houston, Texas. I remember when this city was teeming with white men wearing cowboy hats. It probably had the best cowboy culture in the world. That’s gone! It was a beautiful culture. More beautiful than any other culture I know – including and Asian culture. But it’s gone. And now it looks and feels here in Houston more like the Tower of Babel, Babylon the Great and The City of Joy in India all rolled into a diversity-culture freak show… Nowadays, I regularly drive downtown without seeing even one cowboy hat. Could you just imagine traveling to Thailand and not seeing Thai boxing, Thai food, Thai dress and Thai culture in general? What a loss that would be! Well, that’s what’s happened to Houston. We lost our cowboy culture to BS “diversity”. And we let it happen. So I know how things can quickly change both here at home and in the LOS – and not for the better, either. And, frankly, it’s really quite difficult to plan on doing anything long-term in Thailand or here at home when the future is so unpredictable.

Lastly, I think President Trump has failed; not because he didn’t try to turn things around and make America great again, but because Marxism and “diversity” have just gone too far and it’s pretty much a hopeless cause to think that one man (Trump) can actually succeed in turning around the declining American Empire at this point when so many fools are against him. It’s just too late. Sorry.

This sucker is going down, and our retirement dreams are going down right along with it.

Stick‘s thoughts:

I think planned immigration is just fin – and let’s not forget that with falling birth rates in many Western countries that immigration is needed! All countries should encourage the right people – those who are healthy, not too old, educated and aspirational – not those who will work in McDonald’s or drive Uber etc.

As far as Westerners planning to retire to Thailand goes, I think it won’t be long before Thailand is out of reach financially for the average schmuck. Those who have managed to accrue wealth will still be able to retire in Thailand no problem. In time (and this will take some years before we see the effects of it), I imagine Thailand will host more quality Western retirees largely due to the increasing cost of retiring there….and there’s a pretty decent argument that that can only be a good thing – for both the Thais and those foreigners who choose to retire there.
