Can’t Believe It Took Me So Long To Visit The…..
PHILIPPINES! Over the past 10 days I took the opportunity to go and visit the Philippines. I have always heard mixed reviews about the place but with my 7-year tenure winding down here in Thailand I felt it was needed before I went back to the states.
We started in Angeles City, then Subic Bay, then Manila and it was awesome. It’s basically is a mini Pattaya at half the price and without any of the nonsense.
It is not the safest of places but I never felt threatened one time.
The people are, incredibly, friendlier than the Thais. You don’t feel like everyone is out to get your wallet.
The bar scene was great as well and a lot of bars in Angeles City are open 24/7 and the gogos have a full line up of dancers by mid-day.
I was travelling with a couple of guys and we are all under the age of 33, pretty fit and clean cut. The competition there was all 30 years older than us. It was really like walking into a lion’s den!
The girls were super friendly and not pushy when you bought them a drink (Angeles about 120 baht a lady drink and Subic 100 baht HELLO VALUE). The girls actually sat with you the entire time and were not running up to dance or off with another customer. It was all about you as a paying customer.
There is no talk of short time or long time. I was a little nervous about paying the barfine up front but the girls were with you once you barfined them, no pressure to perform if you wanted to go out clubbing or eat – they were cool with it.
The barfine in Angeles was about 2,000 – 2,400 baht whereas in Subic it was 1,000-1,500 for long time!
The girls were just as hot as the Thais in my opinion. The girls were happy with a 300 baht tip in the morning. The value really was amazing, there were no attitudes and the girls have not been commercialized like their Thai sisters.
Sam Miguel beers at the gogo bars were 100-120 baht and half that during happy hour. Again, unbelievable value compared to Bangkok / Pattaya, even with the draft beer deals.
That was AC and Subic; Manila was a totally different story. The lady drink prices were on par with coyote drinks in Bangkok and the bar fines were 3,000-4,000 baht. The pricing made absolutely no sense in Manila and I would avoid it next time I went there. I only saw Koreans taking girls out in EDSA Entertainment Complex (Nana-like a bit) and P. Burgos. That was few and far between. LA Cafe was similar to Climax and Cafe Havana was one of the most overrated places I have ever been to. Avoid Manila and head straight to Angeles City and Subic is my advice.
All in all it was an awesome trip. I talked to a few of the older guys that live here in Bangkok and they just kinda look at me and say that was Thailand 20 – 30 years ago.
Just since I have been coming here 10 years ago I have seen a lot of changes, some good and some bad, but the biggest is the attitudes of the Thais that has been going downhill for a while now.
The reader that said the Philippines is the real land of smiles last week is 100% correct. I am already booking my ticket back in a few months. I couldn’t believe how many times my friends and I said, Geez they are so much nicer than the Thais!
Why waste your money on overpriced Thai girls for 15 minutes of fun while they are watching the clock with an attitude.
